Embracing randomness in podcasts (or trying to anyway)

octubre 12, 2017

Here is the thing: I'm kind of super-organized (some will tell you more than kind of). And in the case of Booktube, I know what I like. I have my favorites, the ones by whom I watch every single video. I have my "I only watch TBRs/BookHauls/Wrap-Ups". I have my backups when I'm especially bored and in the mood for bookish junk. I have a system.

But when it comes to podcasts... I swear I'm a mess. (And I'm trying to not let it get to me which is partly why I'm writing this entry right here).

It's like this: I listen to most of them on my cellphone, so I use Soundcloud. It all really tarted with Lexicon Valley, which is a fascinating podcast about language. I went through them all but then noticed that this was an unofficial playlist and it wasn't being updated and so I ran out (not to despair, it will make a comeback). I also love The Casual Academic but I feel like I need to have read the books being discussed before listening to each episode (except the 'Asides').

I recently started listening to Just the Right Book, The Penguin UK Podcast and Bang! Science, all of which I have loved. I have also started taking suggestions and researching more bookish podcasts, and the results seem promising...

Except.

Here is the thing. Most of the podcasts that I have found but not tried yet are hosted on websites (so, no cellphone app) or have a bajillion episodes and then I'm fazed with the anxiety of knowing I will probably never catch up. (Something similar to my feelings of both utter joy and extreme dread when I found out that Lexicon Valley is still a thing and I can listen to them at the Slate website. I'm so freaking excited about the prospect of so many new episodes... but then again look at that huge list of podcast to listen to. Not to mention all you bands' 2017 releases!

I'm trying not to let it get to me but it's a bit hard because I do like order so much and hence constantly feel like I need to tidy my podcasts up, yet it's impossible because there are so many different platforms and so many different podcasts and so many episodes of each and I also like music so sometimes I will not want to listen to a podcast and all of this makes me feel a bit... flustered.

I guess I have to get used to trying one or two and surfing through podcasts the way I do the net, or TV. Anyways, check out all the podcasts I have linked throughout this post because they are all fascinating.

Cheers!
